Zoom T-shirts with stretch twin needles to create elastic seams and give them a professional look.

    Application

With the stretch twin needle you can create professional looking seams on your T-shirts and other knitted garments – even without using a coverstitch machine: with your normal household sewing machine you can sew two exactly parallel, elastic seams on the bottom. At the same time, use two upper threads on the top seam.

The medium ball point of the needles ensures that the loops are gently pushed aside without being damaged. This helps to prevent holes. Thanks to the special shaft, the needle sits closer to the hook. In combination with the special scarf section, this prevents skipped stitches, even in very stretchy knitted fabrics.

The Stretch twin needle is particularly suitable for hemming and topstitching (very) elastic knitted fabrics, e.g. jersey, velour jersey, knitted cotton, swimwear fabrics.

    Before you start sewing

The stretch twin needle can be used on conventional household sewing machines with a zigzag function. Like other household needles, it is also inserted into the needle bar: from your perspective, the flat side of the shaft points away from you.

The stitch plate and presser foot must have a recess large enough for the selected needle spacing.

Tip: Turn on the twin mode or use a similar button on your sewing machine (if available) to limit the stitch width. This prevents the needle from accidentally hitting the stitch plate and breaking.

    Threading the needle

    • Each of the two needles requires a separate spool of thread. If you do not have a second thread holder, use a bobbin for the second thread and place it on the spool holder under the spool with the first thread.
    • Make sure the bobbin and spool of thread unwind in the same direction.
    • You can use the same color thread for both needles or different colors for decorative effects.
    • Pass the two threads together through the guide element of your machine as if they were one thread. Then separate the threads and pass one thread through each eye. Some machines have special thread separation tools. In this case, follow the special threading instructions of your machine.

    Please note that:
The automatic needle threader does not work with twin needles!

    Tips

    • Check the thread tension in advance with a few test stitches. You can use scraps of fabric for this. Adjust the thread tension so that the lower thread has a slight zigzag shape along the seam. This ensures that the seam can stretch.
    • For thicker pieces of fabric, reduce the sewing speed slightly to prevent needle breakage.
    • Do not push or pull the fabric while sewing. This can lead to an uneven stitch length and in the worst case to needle breakage.
    • To get a nice, smooth seam without any bulges, you can use spray starch before sewing or use a water-soluble stabilizer while sewing.
