A jeans needle has a reinforced shank and a sharp point that goes through tightly woven fabric without deviating or breaking.
For what: jeans and denim, canvas, gabardine, sailcloth, thick twill, and anywhere where multiple layers meet, such as the hem of a pair of jeans or the corners of a bag.
Thickness 110 is the heaviest in the jeans range. For lighter denim or chambray, a 90 or a 100 is sufficient.
