Sewing your own underwear seems like fiddly work for advanced sewers. With Sébastien, however, it’s actually quite manageable, and you use up your jersey scraps right away.
The pattern includes three items: a camisole with ribbed fabric at the neck and armholes, boxer shorts with an elastic waistband and a lined gusset, and tight-fitting swimming trunks that are fully lined.
Two details that make the difference when wearing them. The back of the boxer shorts is one piece, so there is no seam running down the middle. And the swimming trunks have their seams in the middle instead of on the sides, so nothing chafes against the thigh while swimming. With underwear, that is the whole point: children wear what feels comfortable and leave the rest behind.
What you master
Place ribbing fabric evenly on a fine neckline. Line the gusset using the fourreau method, where the inside is completely finished and no seams are visible anywhere. Line a pair of swimming trunks. Incorporate elastic into a waistband. If you can do those four, you will be able to make any piece of underwear or swimwear from now on.
Which fabric do you need
For the tank top and boxer shorts: a knit with sufficient stretch, jersey or interlock with elastane, and matching ribbing. For the swimming trunks: badlycra plus lining. Not sure what goes together? Feel free to stop by, we are happy to compare.
