What for: laying out your pattern without pins. You place the weights on the pattern piece and cut around them with your rotary cutter. That is faster than using pins, and for fabrics you must not pierce, it is the only way: leather, faux leather, coated fabric, and canvas will hold every pinhole forever.

Also handy for keeping a pattern flat that keeps wanting to roll up, or for holding a seam in place while marking.

The mini size is intended for small pattern pieces and narrow sections, where a heavy weight just gets in the way.
